Resident Evil 4, a pillar of the survival horror genre, is making the jump to virtual reality. Announced for Oculus Quest 2 during Capcom’s April 2021 Resident Evil Showcase, many fans assumed that the game would, at the very least, also hit previous Oculus headsets. Facebook has now confirmed, however, that Resident Evil 4 VR will be the first Oculus Quest 2 exclusive game.
Is Resident Evil 4 VR coming to PSVR, PC VR, and Oculus Quest 1?
Facebook confirmed to UploadVR that Resident Evil 4 VR is an Oculus Quest 2 exclusive game. Oculus Studios is working on the project, which increases the likelihood that RE4 VR will remain Oculus exclusive. As a result, the Resident Evil 4 virtual reality port isn’t likely to hit PSVR, HTC Vive, or WMR devices in the future. It could transition to Oculus Rift S and Quest 1, in theory, though nothing has been confirmed.
Up until now, there have been no Oculus Quest 2 exclusive games. While there are Quest platform exclusives, all applications have been made available across both headsets. Facebook and Oculus originally planned Quest 1 and 2 content parity for the foreseeable future, though did warn that it wouldn’t last forever. Now, less than a year after the launch of Oculus Quest 2, that time has apparently come.
The Oculus Quest 2’s somewhat controversial nature hasn’t done anything to help the situation. With the Oculus ecosystem slowly moving towards full Facebook account integration, Quest 2 is the first device to 100% require linking an account. This is all despite a promise from Oculus’ Palmer Luckey that forced integration would never happen. Additionally, users can’t link a dummy account to counteract any privacy concerns; this could result in an account ban and loss of purchases.
