In keeping with its newfound tradition, the Epic Games Store is giving away yet another title. The What Remains of Edith Finch free giveaway will start on January 10 and run until January 25. However, the next free title has not yet been revealed.
Epic has already given away a few games since the store’s launch in December 2018. Subnautica, the underwater survival game, was the first free title and Super Meat Boy, the classic 2010 platformer, is the current giveaway. You only need to download the Epic Games Store launcher to claim them. This is a stark contrast to the PlayStation Plus free games and Games With Gold on Xbox Live that require subscriptions.
What Remains of Edith Finch is a walking simulator from developer Giant Sparrow that came out in 2017. It features the titular Edith Finch as she walks through her family’s home and encounters their stories that you play through. What Remains of Edith Finch was praised for its inventive and mechanically infused storytelling that told a heart-wrenching tale of one unlucky family. It originally came out on Steam and PS4 in April 2017 only to come to Xbox One three months later.
Giving away free games has been one way for Epic Games to drum up excitement for the Epic Games Store. It will be giving away a game every two weeks in the storefront’s first year. But other than free games, it has also been gathering exclusives. Hades, developer Supergiant Game’s roguelite title, is currently in early access and is already gathering positive buzz.
The remaining episodes of The Walking Dead The Final Season are also on their way to the Epic Games Store. Epic snatched the exclusive PC rights to the episodes so they could release alongside their console counterparts. Before Epic stepped in, the future of the PC version of the game was in flux. But now, thanks to Epic, the last two installments will be able to shamble on.
