While The Walking Dead The Final Season got a release date for its third episode, the dust still wasn’t settled on the project as a whole. There was a particular haze around the PC version since the season was pulled from PC storefronts. However, The Walking Dead The Final Season PC version will be releasing exclusively on the Epic Games Store on January 15 alongside the console iterations.
Skybound Games, the title’s new publisher, announced the news surrounding the PC version earlier today. Those who have purchased the game on other PC platforms will also be entitled to play the upcoming episodes on the storefront they initially bought the pass on like Steam or GOG. And those who have not bought the season pass can buy it right now on the Epic Games Store. Skybound and Epic have partnered together for “exclusive future PC downloads.”
President of Interactive Dan Murray and Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe both put out a joint statement about the matter.
“The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry,” they said. “We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.”
This wording suggests that Epic may have even helped fund some of the game after Telltale folded. This makes sense, given that people who wanted to wait for the series to wrap up on PC will now have to play it on the Epic Games Store. The Walking Dead The Final Season was pulled from digital storefronts in September after the studio had collapsed. It came back to the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch a bit later but not to PC. Skybound said it was working on it and would have an update sometime in the future.
