The Walking Dead: The Final Season May Still Be Completed

Telltale has had a rough year that hit its apex when the studio abruptly announced its imminent closure last weekend. Its future projects were rumored to be canceled with the studio, which made sense. However, later that day more rumors came out and stated that The Walking Dead: The Final Season would also be cut short after the second episode. And while Telltale hasn’t confirmed that the season will be finished, it has said that partners have shown interest in helping it release the last two episodes.

Telltale tweeted the following on Monday afternoon:

“Hi everyone, we have a Walking Dead update for you. Multiple potential partners have stepped forward to express interest in helping to see The Final Season through to completion. While we can’t make any promises today, we are actively working towards a solution that will allow episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and released in some form. In the meantime, episode 2 will release tomorrow across all platforms as planned. We hope to have answers for your other questions soon.”

Telltale is clear in saying that the tweet is not a confirmation that The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be completed but it shows that it is working on a solution. It also suggests that the cancellation rumors were accurate.

Other rumors said that Telltale’s Stranger Things game and second season of The Wolf Among Us were also dead. Then, later that day, both Game Informer and USGamer corroborated each other’s stories with their sources and stated that The Walking Dead: The Final Season would prematurely end after Episode 2. Clementine’s voice actor, Melissa Hutchinson, also tweeted her thoughts, explaining that she did not know the fate of the season but had also heard that it would end after Episode 2.

Releasing the rest of the season would alleviate a lot of future headaches for everyone involved. Telltale wouldn’t have to issue refunds for the season passes it has already sold (and continues to sell) nor would fans have to complain about only getting half of a finale. According to our review, Episode 2 is heavily dependent on the last two episodes to pay off what it spends most of its runtime setting up. It would be such a tease to leave it on that note.
