Red Dead Redemption 2 PC gameplay has reportedly been leaked, giving us a brief glance into what may be the first signs of Rockstar Games’ newest release making it to your very own computer. Fans of Rockstar’s wild west adventure that have been hoping to see some Red Dead Redemption 2 PC gameplay will be happy to see that a purported leak may have shown us just that. A submission on the /r/pcgaming subreddit by /u/HereComesDatAlt featured a video less than 25 seconds in length. The video shows a mouse cursor on the screen and a number of graphical options that wouldn’t be part of a console release. The original upload on YouTube has already been taken down. Of course, a mirror of the original video has already popped up on YouTube and it’s likely to be widely available elsewhere by now.
/u/HereComesDatAlt is most likely an alt account judging by the name. Alt accounts are often used on Reddit to compartmentalize interests or protect one’s privacy. For example, someone leaking gameplay footage would likely use such an alt account to make it more difficult to track them down. The account in question has been active for a couple of years and has a particular focus on the gaming industry, which isn’t a surprise if this indeed a genuine leak.
It is entirely possible that the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC gameplay leak is a well-crafted fake. A tutorial for using a mouse and keyboard with the game on the Xbox One popped up on the game’s subreddit around a month ago. We could simply be seeing that in action here, but it wouldn’t explain the entire video.
This may also simply be the result of clever video editing. Record some gameplay, insert a fake menu during the fadeout, insert a mouse cursor moving around, and you’ve got yourself what looks like a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC gameplay leak. All you’d have to do is play it back on a PC monitor and it makes it seem more realistic. It’s notable that we don’t see the mouse or keyboard in the frame, either. We can’t be sure if this Red Dead Redemption 2 PC gameplay leak is genuine. That said, one should always take these things with a grain of salt, as it’s definitely possible to fake a video like this.
