PSN Might Not Be Back Until May 31st

The Playstation Network went down on April 20, 2011. Perhaps Sony's tech guys were too busy sneaking out back to take bong loads when Anonymous launched their attack and that's why you have no PSN. Who actually knows what really happened and how, though? And at this point who really cares? People just want to know when they're going to get their services back and what they're going to get. Well, it looks like everyone may have to wait a little longer.

While speaking to Bloomberg in a phone interview, Shigenori Yoshida said that a full return of all services could take until May 31, 2011. It's likely that services will be running in some capacity before then, but not the complete range of services offered. So hopefully folks will be able to play online sooner than late, but may have to wait longer to make purchases from the online store or access other features.

Sadly, though, Yoshida also says he's "uncertain" as to when the PSN will actually be up. At the end of May, it will be six weeks since the initial shutdown, which may seem like a long time, but when you're talking about a network as large as the Playstation's needing to be moved and rebuilt from the ground up for millions upon millions of consumers to access, you start to grasp just how difficult the task at hand is. And as I said earlier today, Anonymous has promised that attacks will continue, which could mean even more downtime after the initial relaunch. It has not been the PS3's month; that's for sure.
