Rayman Legends Delayed Until September, Makes Children Cry

Say it ain't so, Ubi! I regret to inform you that Rayman Legends has been delayed until September 2013 on the Wii U. On the bright side, the Wii U is losing its exclusivity and the game will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.

This is not good for the Wii U, because it needs exclusive games that put the Wii U GamePad to good use in order to give consumers a reason to buy one. Thus far, the Wii U hasn't quite been selling to expectations, and certainly hasn't seen the same smash success the original Wii did. It was rare to find a Wii on store shelves for up to two years after it launched, and the Wii U is already well-stocked in nearly ever retail store I've been to.

On a personal level, this is the first time I had to break the news to my daughter that a game she's been looking forward to has been delayed. She cried. And that really sucks. We've been playing the demo on the Wii U like crazy, and because it only lets you play it 30 times total, we're going to be locked out soon. This would have held us over until the original release date of February 26th, but with it now being September, we're screwed.

I assume the delay is to give the game more polish, and so that there is a universal launch across all consoles. Plus, Ubisoft Montreal may need to retool certain aspects of the game that took advantage of the Wii U GamePad.
