Sony Is Pushing a New VR Bundle With 5 Games

Good news if you’re looking for some festive deals before Christmas. Because the new PSVR bundle from Sony comes packed full of everything you need to make the most of the season, well, that’s what Sony hope anyway. Sales for the PSVR system haven’t quite lived up to what Sony had hoped for since its release in 2016.

The PlayStation VR “Mega Bundle” will be available in the UK from December 3 before launching in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on December 4, though there isn’t any word yet about a similar bundle for the US.

The good news is that the bundle comes with the PlayStation camera included along with five games. The bad news is that you’ll still need to fork out extra money for the Move controllers as they’re not included.

The headset and camera are accompanied by Astrobot Rescue Mission VR, the plucky VR platformer that seems to be edging towards becoming the VR mascot for Sony. You’ll also get your hands on Skyrim VR and Doom VFR, both of which were met with fairly mixed reviews after their 2017 releases. You’ll also receive Wipeout Omega Collection VR and PlayStation VR Worlds. VR Worlds comes with five mini-experiences included, with Guy Ritchie wannabe, The London Heist, space-shooter The Scavenger’s Odyssey, and more. The lineup is a fairly strong one, though it doesn’t include the likes of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and similar games that we thought the PSVR needs to embrace a little more.

You won’t get these VR games included as boxed versions though. The PlayStation Blog describes what you receive as “vouchers” which most likely means you’ll be spending a fair bit of time waiting for these games to download. And the trailer for the bundle, which you can watch below, doesn’t yet have a price for the bundle.

Since releasing back in 2016, the PSVR has done little to move away from the role of being a novelty peripheral. We’ve seen similar trends for the PSVR’s competitors, with both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift stay as niche extras for players.

Reports earlier this year suggested that the entire VR market was performing below expectations and caused Sony to realign their targets for a more “realistic outlook.” It’ll be interesting to see just how many takers there are for this VR bundle in Europe and if it ends up making its way Stateside.
