Virtual Console Saves Won’t Transfer To Wii U Version

So you've got a hefty back catalog of Virtual Console games and you're looking forward to importing them to the Wii U's upcoming equivalent. What you may not know however, is that your saves won't make the transition.

Nintendo shared this news with Kotaku, explaining that there are two ways to experience Virtual Console content on the Wii U. If you want to keep your old save data, you'll need to boot the game through the system's original Wii Virtual Console mode, which is already available.

If you want to take advantage of all the upgraded features including off-screen GamePad support, you'll have to pay an upgrade fee of $1 for NES titles and $1.5 for SNES. In addition, the old save data you had from playing the original Wii VC version won't carry over, forcing you to start the game from the beginning. Bummer, I know.

Is this going to deter any of you from upgrading your prior VC purchases to the Wii U version? What do you think of Nintendo charging you a small sum to get access to GamePad support? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
