Sunset Overdrive PC could finally be happening.

Sunset Overdrive PC Port Rated by ESRB

The rumored Sunset Overdrive PC port looks to finally be happening. The third-person shooter was recently rated by the ESRB for release on PC. Insomniac Games developed the Microsoft-published title in 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive, where it has remained for the past four years despite the studio desire for a PC version.

An ESRB rating page for Sunset Overdrive PC was found yesterday by Gematsu. The rating lists Windows PC as the platform, and nothing else new about the title. The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea rated a PC release of Sunset Overdrive back in May. However, Insomniac Games and Microsoft have yet to announce anything official for the PC release.

Fans of Insomniac Games’ 2014 action-adventure have been clamoring for a PC release since the game launched. The game didn’t sell well upon its initial release, partly because of the Xbox One’s small install base. It was well-received critically, and we gave it a great score in our review. The game received an overall 81/100 by review aggregation site Metacritic.

Sunset Overdrive let players traverse very freely with things like wall-running, zip-lines, and grinding serving as main movement options. Its world is crass, loud, vivid, and over-the-top. Insomniac pushed the tone towards Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. The tone of Sunset Overdrive set it apart from other post-apocalyptic games. It’s mix of unique weapons, third-person shooting, crass humor, and fluid mobility system was received well by critics and its players.

The game’s commercial shortcomings didn’t hinder Insomniac’s future success, and Sunset Overdrive helped bring the developer into Marvel’s sights. Sunset Overdrive‘s producer, Bryan Intihar, went on to serve as lead creative director on Spider-Man. Insomniac Games’ success with Sunset Overdrive‘s open world helped them create New York City, and make it fun to traverse. Sunset Overdrive is all but confirmed for PC, unlike the Sony published PS4-exclusive Spider-Man.
