Mortal Engines Game

Mortal Engines Game Possible if Movie Receives Sequel, Says Peter Jackson

Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson has revealed that he is hoping for a Mortal Engines game and that it might be possible if the upcoming movie becomes successful enough to receive a sequel. The Lord of the Rings director also elaborated on his love for gaming, mentioning franchises such as Bethesda’s Fallout and Ubisoft’s Far Cry series.

In an interview with Polygon, Jackson explains why a Mortal Engines game hasn’t been announced. He cites the high cost and lengthy production of games development to be one of the major barriers to a video game based on his upcoming movie adaptation of Phillip Reeve’s popular book series. There’s also no guarantee that the movie will be successful. Therefore, a Mortal Engines game will only be considered worth making if the movie turns out to be good enough to warrant a sequel.

“They very rarely make a game based on the original movie, you know. You generally get the games on the second film when the first one was successful. Games themselves, as you know, are hugely expensive and they take two years to develop,” he said. “So there’s no game with this first Mortal Engines film, but I’m hopeful there will be, if this film successful enough to make a sequel, then hopefully a game will arise at that point.”

Although he loves Fallout and Far Cry, Jackson admits that he hasn’t played Fallout 4 and Far Cry 5. Busy with directing Mortal Engines, he hasn’t had time to play the most recent installments of both franchises. He prefers to have “a clear week or so just to play,” instead of rushing home late at night and scrapping one or two hours of gaming before going to sleep.

With Fallout 76 on the horizon, perhaps the iconic movie director can skip Fallout 4 and just play that instead when it arrives on November 14, 2018.
