It’s time to start storming the castle once again. Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon is set to release on November 6 on both PlayStation 4 and Steam. This is a 2D side-scrolling RTS where you have one horizontal plane and two armies trying to march across it. Best known for Awesomenauts, developer Romino Games are revisiting this originally Wii U exclusive sequel on the eve of the studio’s tenth anniversary.
If you’re only familiar with the first game or the Wii U original, you’ll see several changes. This version of Swords and Soldiers 2 has two new factions to go up against the returning Vikings. Persians come kitted with turbans and flying carpets, while the Demons employ all manner of hellish trickery. The game adds powerful hero units to the mix with their own unique abilities. Each faction also has a unique tech tree and spells to set them apart from the rest.
Players can put their armies to the test in local and online multiplayer, or embark on a 10-hour single-player campaign. As the name suggests, all three armies are after one thing. It’s not power, money or glory, it’s that Middle Eastern meat wrap that the Avengers ate at the end of their first movie. Each new level unlocks more complex units and buildings, as you’d expect from a fully 3D RTS. You can even mix and match units from all three armies at the same time across all modes.
Romino Games also revealed that owners of Awesomenauts will get a bonus for purchasing Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon. Owners of both games receive a skin and hero unlock for Scoop, turning him into a proud Viking ghost. Romino also teased that a Nintendo Switch version of the game was in the works. Currently in testing, the studio gave a hopeful release window of this December for Nintendo fans.
