Xbox October Update Includes New Avatars, Alexa Support, Dolby Vision, and More

The Xbox October Update for the Xbox One is finally upon us. It brings users unique new avatar customization, Alexa voice skills, Dolby Vision, and more.

The new Xbox Avatars are the biggest feature in this update. Using the new editor, you can create an avatar to represent you from the ground up. You can customize the body type, hair, clothes, eyes, mouth, and nose and create a more detailed avatar.

Microsoft stated that tons of customization options will be available at launch with plenty more to come. Current and future additions will be available via the new Avatar Store which allows users to get items including, but not limited to, licensed designs from games like Halo, Gears of War, and other exclusives.

The Avatar Store will be updated monthly. If you are a fan of your original avatar, no need to fret. You are not forced to utilize the new avatars and you can absolutely keep that fun character that you’ve had for years.

The Xbox October Update also includes Alexa integration. If you have an Alexa-enabled device, you can use your voice to perform a myriad of tasks on your console. Some of these include powering your console on or off, launch games, capture screenshots, start streaming, and much more. All you have to do is install the Xbox Skill from the Alexa Skill Store and start shouting commands, controlling your console hands-free. Microsoft is also launching a special promotion where anyone who buys an Xbox One S or Xbox One X bundle on Amazon will get an Echo Dot for free (while supplies last).

Dolby Vision support is the final bit feature in this update. With a compatible TV and Dolby Vision enabled, your Xbox will deliver enhanced HDR picture quality. This feature is really geared towards those videophiles out there. Dolby Vision currently only works with Netflix with more apps coming soon.

You can download the Xbox October Update today and check out a detailed explanation of all the new features over on Xbox’s website or in the video below.
