Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice PS4 Retail Edition Revealed

A Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice PS4 retail edition has been confirmed by its publisher. 505 Games released a 30-second trailer online to reveal that a physical version of the game would be coming to Sony’s console. 505 Games will only be bringing it to PS4, however. Microsoft – who recently acquired Hellblade‘s developer Ninja Theory – will distribute the title’s physical version on Xbox One themselves.

The video announcement, which was posted on 505 Games’ own YouTube channel, was released on Tuesday. Footage of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is shown off in stunning fashion. The footage is accompanied by a voice over revealing the plot’s synopsis, with various scenes from the psychological thriller giving an idea of what to expect. In the bottom right hand corner, the PS4 retail edition’s release date is shown as December 4, 2018. Players who missed out on the title during its original release can also pre-order a copy now.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was originally released on PS4 and PC in April 2017. An Xbox One version was also brought out in November of that year. The game tells the story of Senua, a Pict warrior who must travel to the mythological Nordic setting of Helheim to rescue the soul of her dead lover. The game brought to light the effects of mental illness on individuals, with Senua constantly plagued by visions of an entity called ‘the Darkness’ due to suffering from psychosis.

Ninja Theory’s development team worked closely with neuroscientists and mental health sufferers to ensure that their version of psychosis was as accurate as possible. The title received critical acclaim for its portrayal of mental health issues, and it won numerous awards as a result. Chief among its accolades were the Best British Game at the 14th British Academy Games Awards, Best Games for Impact gong at the Game Awards 2017, and Sound Design at the Develop Awards.
