Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon everybuddy

Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Everybuddy is Coming This Winter

Final Fantasy played a huge role in the most recent Nintendo Direct. In addition to all the other remasters, Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Everybuddy is also coming to the Switch as well as the PS4 this winter. It has been “specially designed for new gaming systems,” as it was originally a Wii game. Square Enix came out later after the Nintendo Direct and revealed the PS4 version.

The game is a isometric RPG with a focus on the franchise’s titular chocobos. Square Enix’s website states that the world changes every single time you enter a dungeon but that “it only moves whenever Chocobo moves, whether Chocobo walks, kicks, or uses an item.”

Square also claims that this game has “countless dungeons,” a story mode, has two-player cooperative play. The trailer even specified that this time, you can “befriend all the monsters.”

Square Enix calls this a “spectacular return” to Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon. It originall came out in 2007 on the Wii in Japan and came to other territories the following year. The game was received relatively well, garnering a 76 score on Metacritic. Our own review matches up rather closely with that score. We praised it for its “challenging roguelike play” and odd story but criticized its bad voice acting and lame minigames. Essentially, it was a roguelike before most indie games had taken that genre to a new level.

This was only part of Nintendo’s Final Fantasy blitz during the Direct. The Switch is getting remasters of Final Fantasy 7, 9, 1010-2, and 12 (sorry, Final Fantasy 8 fans) along with Final Fantasy Pocket Edition HD, World of Final Fantasy MaximaFinal Fantasy Crystal Remastered Edition. The numbered remastered games and Crystal Chronicles will all come out at some unknown point in 2019. Pocket Edition HD is available right now and Maxima will be out on November 6.
