Katamari Damacy Switch and PC Remaster Incoming

It has been a long time since we’ve had to roll up junk in Katamari Damacy. Nintendo is fixing that by announcing the Katamari Damacy Switch remaster. Called Katamari Damacy Reroll, this new Switch version will come with high definition visuals, gyro controls, HD controls, and multiplayer battles. It is scheduled to release digitally on November 30 and a physical version will be out on December 7. Bandai Namco also confirmed that the game will also be coming to the PC.

While on a Nintendo stream, it was not announced as a console-exclusive title. It could be possible that this updated version could hit the PS4 and Xbox One. However, if that is in the pipeline, we may not hear about it right away.

Katamari Damacy originally came out in 2004 on the PS2. It was one of the system’s more bizarre titles but it quickly garnered an audience because of its quirky writing and gameplay.

It spawned several sequels on many different platforms. However, many associate it with the PlayStation brand, given its origins and the series appearing on the PSP, Vita, PS3, and PS2. The last two entries were mobile games but the last one to hit any sort of console was Touch My Katamari, which was out for the Vita’s Japanese and worldwide launch in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The last console title was 2009’s Katamari Forever on the PS3.

While the series has its fanbase, it hasn’t enjoyed much of its fame of the past few years. Critics were more critical of its later entries, which is evident by its average score (more or less) dropping a few points in every release.

Remastering the first game was likely the smartest choice since it was the most well-received game in the franchise. Its release will likely bring on some new players and could even possibly be testing the waters for a new entry.
