The start of BlizzCon season is here. Blizzard‘s annual fan convention gets nearly two months of content trickling out starting today. Today’s BlizzCon All-Access Kickoff stream outlined changes to the cosplay contest, virtual ticket interactivity, and debuted a new Sombra skin for Overwatch.
Blizzard’s two-day fan convention runs from November 2 through November 3 this year, but the developer began to showcase and debut new content leading up to that date during a stream earlier today. If you want immediate gratification, the new legendary “Demon Hunter” skin for Sombra in Overwatch is now live for all ticket and virtual ticket holders. The Diablo–themed skin’s existence leaked earlier today, it looks pretty good and the only way to get it is through one of this year’s BlizzCon tickets.
BlizzCon’s cosplay contest is seeing a myriad of changes to how it is judged, and how people registered for the event. Now there are five categories for the contest: team, individual, fabrication, artisan, and make-up and special effects. The fabrication category is focused around armor pieces, prop weapons, and other larger objects (WoW shoulders). Artisan will be a category for tailoring, sewing, and leatherworking. The make-up and special effects category includes anything from facial make-up and wigs to mechanical wings and lights. There will also be a new virtual ticket cosplay winner, voted on by viewers at home.
The contest is also now open to everybody who registers, unlike the 100-person cap from previous years. Alongside the contest there will be a cosplay exhibition for those uninterested in competition, but who still want to show off their craftsmanship and love for Blizzard.
Virtual ticket holders will be getting a slew of content drops over the coming weeks. Blizzard will be releasing over 40 episode in various web series including The Vault and Drawn to Adventure. The first episode of those series is live, for free, on YouTube and the BlizzCon website. Further episodes will be locked behind the virtual ticket paywall. Expect Blizzard to release new content across all their properties exclusive for ticket holders in the coming weeks.
