BlizzCon-2021-Announcements

Everything announced at the BlizzCon 2021 Opening Keynote

BlizzCon 2021 wasn’t as action-packed as some past years have been. However, there was still a plethora of announcements that Blizzard fans will love. During the keynote, we got updates and reveals pertaining to Diablo, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and a treat in the form of a trio of Blizzard’s classic titles.

Blizzard Arcade Collection

The Blizzard Arcade Collection is now available as part of The Blizzard 30-Year Celebration Collection or as a standalone purchase. It combines The Lost Vikings, Rock N Roll Racing, and Blackthorne into one package. These aren’t simple ports, though. They feature modern conveniences like rewind and save states and have seen some graphical enhancements as well.

Hearthstone Forged in the Barrens expansions, Hearthstone Classic, and Hearthstone Mercenaries

Hearthstone is getting two significant updates soon. The first expansion of 2021, Forged in the Barrens, will feature locations, creatures, and characters from the iconic World of Warcraft area. Hearthstone is also getting the World of Warcraft treatment with the new Classic format. This new play type will allow players to craft decks and faceoff with the original cards and mechanics from the game’s 2014 launch.

Another game mode will come to Hearthstone later in the year, as well. Hearthstone Mercenaries will allow players to collect characters from the Warcraft universe and level them up in single-player and competitive tactical battles.

World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft: Shadowlands – Chains of Domination

The Burning Crusade returns with the first expansion update for World of Warcraft Classic later this year. Retail WoW is getting the first major content update for Shadowlands as well.

Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo 4 Rogue class

The most prominent announcement at the BlizzCon 2021 keynote was that a remaster of Diablo 2 is in development. Diablo 2: Resurrected will update the iconic game for PC and bring it to consoles for the first time. Blizzard also highlighted Diablo 4’s Rogue class in a cinematic trailer.

That’s it for major announcements from the BlizzCon 2021 Opening Ceremonies. Some details on Overwatch 2, including new looks for heroes, were shown during the following stream. However, some of Blizzard’s franchises, like Starcraft, weren’t highlighted at all, unfortunately.
