There’s just over a month to go before Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 hits shelves, and undoubtedly the most exciting new addition is Blackout. It’s Call of Duty‘s battle royale mode and Activision’s answer to Fortnite. Now at last we’ve got our first proper look at gameplay from the new mode in the new Black Ops 4 Blackout trailer. You can check it out below.
The Black Ops 4 Blackout trailer gives a much better look at the mode than anything we’ve seen before, and we now have an idea of how Blackout will play. Players drop in with wingsuits, and from then on it seems to be all action. There’s are a lot of vehicles, with players shooting at each other from trucks, quad bikes, boats, and even helicopters. We spotted a truck picking up an air drop, which is pretty novel.
Weapons include such delights as rocket launchers, slingshots, remote control cars, and some form of explosive with a monkey attached (it’s called a Monkey Bomb, unsurprisingly). Clearly Blackout isn’t totally serious, which was confirmed when a zombie showed up out of nowhere. Players can drop armored defenses, molotov cocktails, and spools of barbed wire. There’s even a grappling hook.
It’s not long before we’ll have a chance to play Black Ops 4 Blackout, as the beta goes live on PS4 on September 10. The Blackout beta on PC and Xbox One will follow a little later on September 14. Earlier this week we got our first look at the beta map, which will hold up to 80 players. It will include the much-requested Nuketown Island, which you can get a glimpse of in the trailer.
As for Black Ops 4 itself, it will launch on October 12 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Hopefully Blackout will be as fun as the trailer makes it seem, as Black Ops 4 is ditching a single-player campaign for the first time to accommodate it.
