Detective Pikachu Movie Receive Official Title and Logo at Pokemon World Championships

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is the official title for the Detective Pikachu movie, thanks to The Pokemon Company CEO and president Tsunekazu Ishihara. He announced the breaking news just hours earlier via Twitter at the ongoing Pokemon World Championships, which is currently taking place in Nashville, Tennessee until August 26, 2018.

We also received our first look at the official logo for the live action movie starring the cute yellow Pokemon we all know and love. The iconic Pokemon logo stood atop the words spelling out “Detective Pikachu.” It’s certainly a design that goes well with the overall theme of the movie, with its focus on Pikachu acting like a detective and solving cases. Although the newly-revealed Pokemon: Detective Pikachu logo above states that the movie will be released in summer 2019 with no definitive release date, we reported earlier this year that it will indeed be releasing on May 10, 2019. It began production back in January 2018, led by actor Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu himself, who unlike the Pikachu we’re used to, will be speaking like a human being. Reynolds is joined by the likes of Ken Watanabe, Justice Smith, and Kathryn Newton.

The Detective Pikachu movie is actually based on the Detective Pikachu game, which was released in Japan over two years ago and a recent localized English version having launched in March 2018. It follows the titular Detective Pikachu and his human partner Tim Goodman, to solve a case involving Goodman’s father. It will also be the first ever live-action Pokemon movie adaptation, despite the fact that there has been more than a whopping 20 animated movies in the franchise. Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be directed by Rob Letterman of 2015’s Goosebumps fame and produced by Legendary Pictures.
