Patrick Stewart is Narrating a WWII Game Called My Memory of Us

My Memory of Us, an indie game about two children trying to find each other in a fictional Polish city during World War II, will be narrated by prolific actor Patrick Stewart. It was revealed by Polish developer Juggler Games that Stewart will be voicing an older version of one of the children recounting the story of the game.

The indie title will set out to tell a story of two children and how their friendship endured throughout the hard times of World War II, inspired by the oppression similarly faced by the parents of the people that work there. What better way to tell that story, then, through narration by such a prolific and much-loved actor? Best known as Captain Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor X in the X-Men movies, Patrick Stewart will be fulfilling such a role.

My Memory of Us will take place in a Jewish ghetto in a city based on Warsaw, and will understandably deal with quite heavy and emotional subjects as a result of that. “When it came time to cast a narrator, Patrick Stewart was the perfect choice,” said Mikołaj Pawłowski, CEO of Juggler Games. “His amazing acting career spans nearly six decades, and since the very beginning he has produced incredible and emotional work. His talent and skill provides the right mixture of gravitas and hope, and his performance resonates perfectly with our game.”

Telling such a story through the eyes of children really seems to inform the aesthetic direction of My Memory of Us; the game’s art style is resemblant of classic Disney animated shorts, and people and goings on in the game reflect a childlike interpretation – the entirety of Germany’s invasion of Poland is portrayed as a mindless robot invasion, and rather than see the antisemitism for what it really is, the narrator describes how the “redfolk,” those dressed in red clothes, were treated differently.

My Memory of Us will be releasing on October 9 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, with a release planned for Nintendo Switch at an as-yet-unconfirmed date.
