Doom Eternal Gameplay Trailer

Doom Eternal Gameplay Trailer Shows New Levels, Weapons, and Enemies

Bethesda and id Software has revealed highly anticipated gameplay trailer for Doom Eternal. The developers unveiled the gameplay trailer at a keynote session during the second day of QuakeCon 2018Doom Slayer is back, and this time he’s returning with a new design, more weapons, and twice as many enemies.

In Doom Eternal, the Doom Slayer returns with a newly redesigned Praetor Suit and weapons. One of those weapons include the Ballista, which can spear demons, and can only be described as a grappling hook shotgun. In the demo, it allowed the protagonist to stay afloat as he hopped around killing hell’s finest. Players can even take control of demons and form hunting parties to invade the campaign of other players. It allows players to slay the Doom Slayer.

Additionally, Doom Eternal will introduce a new gameplay system dubbed “destructible demons,” where players can systematically target specific body parts of enemies to destroy them piece by piece. With all the frantic action and gut spilling, it’s great that the developers made sure to mention and confirm that the game will indeed run at 60 frames per second. The PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions of the previous Doom ran at that smooth framerate while the Switch port ran at 30 frames per second.

In the gameplay trailer, we received our first look at two different stages: Hell on Earth and Phobos. The former is literally a hell on Earth while the latter takes place on a space station near the largest Martian moon. Taking the Doom Slayer across these different allows them to flesh out the lore more. Game director Marty Stratton exemplified this when he said that they are “not making a Doom game, we’re making a Doom universe.”

Doom Eternal will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, the developers did not reveal a definitive release date or release window for the upcoming game. It was originally announced at E3 2018.
