Dragon Quest 11 Switch News Teased for TGS

The Dragon Quest 11 Switch version is currently going through an information drought. However, in a recent stream, staff working on the portable-console hybrid version of the JRPG teased further news coming soon for the game nearer to the Tokyo Game Show. The game is already out on the PlayStation 4 and 3DS in Japan.

At the “Everyone Get Excited! Live Stream from the Dragon Quest 11 Concert Backstage” stream during the “Family Classic Concert: World of Dragon Quest” on Japanese streaming site Nico Nico, Yuji Horii discussed the Nintendo Switch port of Dragon Quest 11. The creator of Dragon Quest noted that he can’t really speak about the Switch port of the game but said that “it is progressing smoothly.”

He added that he has “a feeling we’ll have a variety of announcements around TGS, but just how much will we say…” This does ultimately suggest that there will be some kind of announcement for the Dragon Quest 11 Switch version at the Tokyo Game Show later this year. TGS 2018 will run from September 20 to 23.

Interestingly enough, the director of the game, Takeshi Uchikawa, also stated that he has “a feeling we will be able to announce something soon,” which again adds credence to the idea that the Switch port of the game will be revealed soon. Considering the timing of TGS, we could possibly see the port surfacing in the second quarter of 2019, for Japan at the very least. In related news, Dragon Quest 11 will be receiving Dragon Quest 7-themed skins with the game when it launches in the West later this year.

Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age will launch on September 4 on PC via Steam and the PS4 in North America and Europe. The Japanese versions of the game on PS4 and the downgraded 3DS port were released in July 2017.
