Summer is far from over, as Activision and Sledgehammer Games have proven by announcing the Call of Duty WW2 Days of Summer Community Event, which launches today on July 31, 2018. It will run until 28 August 2018. Gamers with fond nostalgic memories of playing with army men will find much to love in Days of Summer, as the newly-introduced Sandbox map will allow you to live out your childhood fantasies of being tiny toy soldiers in a literal beachside sandbox map. This will be something brand new for the Call of Duty franchise.
In a post on PlayStation Blog earlier today, it was revealed that players will have to navigate massive sandcastles and giant beach toys as miniaturized toy soldiers in the new Sandbox map. Sledgehammer Games Multiplayer Level Designer Evan Hort said: “Everyone, when they were kids, probably played with army men at some point. So, we added army men props in the map that just looks like the little plastic toys you played with, and your character’s skin looks like that as well. We have green ones and gray ones, depending on what team you’re on, and so everyone’s running around also looking like those army men, which is a cool twist.”
Additionally, the new Sandbox map brings with it three new weapons, including the Ribeyrolles, the 3-Line Rifle, and the Automaton, as well as some new summer gear. Players will also be excited to learn that aerial dogfighting will return in Call of Duty WW2 Days of Summer. New features include environmental obstacles in the air while piloting your aircraft, which can be used to the player’s advantage by using them to shake off enemies.
In other related news, the third DLC pack for Call of Duty WW2 was released earlier in June. Dubbed the United Front, it brought back the popular Nazi Zombies, as well as three new Multiplayer maps and a new War Mode mission.
