Warface Crytek PS4 Xbox One

Crysis Developer’s Free-to-Play FPS Warface Coming to PS4 and Xbox One

Remember Crytek and Crysis? The last Crysis game was released back in 2013, which was also when Crytek’s free-to-play FPS title Warface launched for the PC. It’s been a successful venture for the developer, reaching almost 50 million players in 175 countries around the world since then. Now Crytek is looking to expand the game’s player base, by releasing Warface on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Crytek announced the news on its official site for Warface earlier today. A separate team is working on the console version of the game so that the PC version will receive the same attention it always has. The game features ten different PvP game modes, including the ever-popular Battle Royale mode and classics like Plant The Bomb mode. Players can choose from four distinct classes, which includes the Sniper, Rifleman, Engineer, and Medic.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions aren’t even out yet and Crytek has already detailed its future plans for the rest of 2018. The developer will be introducing a new Special Operations, PvP modes and PvP maps every month until January 2019. That’s a lot of planned content for an unreleased game, as it looks like the developer is confident that the game will take off.

Back in 2013, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said that the developer will be moving to a completely free-to-play format for all its games in the next two to five years. That turned out to be somewhat true, as the last traditional single-player game developed by Crytek was 2013’s Microsoft exclusive Ryse of Rome. Since then, it’s been mostly VR and online games like Hunt: Showdown and Robinson: The Journey.

No official release dates have been revealed at the time of writing. However, the early access version for both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Warface will be arriving sometime in August and September 2018, respectively. Meanwhile, check out the console announcement trailer below.
