Final Fantasy 7 Remake News on Hold to Focus on Kingdom Hearts 3 says Nomura

Tetsuya Nomura has said in an interview that the lack of news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn’t down to the game’s development status. It’s because Square Enix is putting a priority on Kingdom Hearts 3 and the studio’s other releases.

Nomura, the game director of both Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, was asked in an interview with Japanese site Ryokutya2089 about any news on the latter. He explained that there’s recently been some fake news surrounding the game that may have left fans feeling uneasy, but wanted to reassure that development is apparently going really well. It’s just that with the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 in January and a few other projects in development, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is stepping aside from the news sphere.

This comes after an interview a few days ago with Italian site Multiplayer where Nomura admitted that the announcement of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake came too soon, as well as Kingdom Hearts 3. He said, “we receive pressure from the fans even when we do not announce anything. They’re always asking us ‘are you working on this?’ or ‘why don’t you make a sequel for that?’ Even after the announcement, the situation does not change, because then they’ll move onto asking us “when will it release?” or “when will you show a new trailer?”

It’s likely that we won’t hear much on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake until at least after Kingdom Hearts 3‘s release. We might not see the game for a while longer, especially with the rumoured release window of 2023 – though this may be part of the apparent fake news that Nomura mentioned in the Ryokutya2089 interview, we don’t yet know for sure. Either way, expect to hear more about the game in general after January 29 next year, after Kingdom Hearts 3 has been released in all regions.
