War never changes… unless you’re Call of Duty, because somebody has created a Black Ops 3 anime girl mod. The gruff, hypermasculine voices are still there, but they emanate from the mouths of characters a lot cuter than the originals. To quote the mod description, “Yeah, finally anime-related stuff in BO3.”
The mod has been available on the Steam Workshop for about ten days now, but its update from two days ago is what shot it into the spotlight. Creator Loyalists™ and the rest of their modding team took the character models from Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online, a deceptively single-player JRPG developed by Tamsoft and successfully inserted them into the campaign, multiplayer, and zombies modes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
The mod contains a cast of all your favourite characters from Cyberdimension Neptunia: there’s the titular Neptune, Nepgear, IF, Noire, Uni, Blanc, Rom, Ram, Vert, and Kurome. It also boasts a variety of features, like polished shaders and “lively facial animations, making your waifus 1000% more lively!” Loyalists™ isn’t messing around either, and warns Steam users at the end of the mod page‘s description that “If the only reason that you clicked on this addon was to express your extreme distaste for anime, or if you feel leaving a hateful comment towards me or the original creators is acceptable behaviour, then expect to be blocked, because all you’re doing is making yourself look like an idiot.”
This Black Ops 3 anime girl mod seems to be in quite high demand, as well. It has 317 reviews on Steam with a 5-star rating, and over 20 pages of comments from eager fans. One by user Suzumi-kun simply reads, “I cannot thank you enough for making this.” Unfortunately, you can’t wear your new grizzled, kawaii character model with pride in public matches, due to mod limitations imposed on the game by Treyarch.
