Bethesda released a spoof satirizing its penchant of releasing Skyrim for every platform imaginable tonight at E3 2018. The skit featured Keegan Michael Key playing Skyrim Very Special Edition for Amazon Echo. Alexa narrated the adventure to zany results. However, what Bethesda didn’t make clear is that you can actually play Skyrim on Amazon Echo right now.
Skyrim Very Special Edition wasn’t just Bethesda poking fun at themselves; it’s a real Alexa skill you can activate right now. Once you do so, you can start a choose-your-own-adventure-type game where you input choices via voice command. You can fight mudcrabs, explore caves, meet new people and all sorts of Skyrim-related activities.
It’s not the full version of Skyrim obviously, but Very Special Edition does meet the qualifications of an RPG. There’s combat, you can level up, there’s health, and I hate to admit it, but I got a bit more into the role of the Dovahkin than I thought possible through an audio-only adventure.
How to Download Skyrim Very Special Edition for Alexa
Downloading Skyrim Very Special Edition is as simple as adding any other skill for Alexa.
- Head into the Amazon Alexa App.
- Hit the hamburger menu icon.
- Choose “Skills.”
- Search for “Skyrim” and tap on “Skyrim Very Special Edition.”
- Enable Skill.
- Start the game by saying, “Alexa, open Skyrim.”
