Bioware is currently working hard on their latest game, Anthem. There isn’t a lot known about the game apart from its an RPG that has multiplayer, it looks to be released next year in March and, if we really want to be honest here, has a look that’s similar to Bungie’s Destiny. So, it isn’t much of a surprise that some fans are rightly worried about the direction of Bioware and how a game like Anthem might affect their storytelling prowess.
Bioware is known for their single-player games with a strong narrative, fantastic characters and a world that fans can get lost in. And while Anthem does have single-player, it’s the multiplayer aspect that has left some fans feeling as though those strong elements that make Bioware games so fun and replayable for them.
Fortunately, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson has a new blog post that addresses player’s concerns about the future of Bioware’s storytelling. In the post, Hudson explains that they [Bioware] are working on a unique storytelling solution that should make players feel like they’re the heroes of their own story, regardless if they play alone or by themselves.
What’s more, Hudson also made it clear that he acknowledged the concerns of fans. “There were, understandably, some questions and concerns about the story in multiplayer.” He said, “specifically, I like to be the one making choices in my story-if it’s multiplayer, won’t the story get watered down?” As a player, I worry about these things too.”
However, Hudson added that the storytelling for Anthem does not necessarily mean it’ll be the same for their other IPs. That’s right, the studio is tackling different storytelling approaches for all their new games, including the next Dragon Age.
Dragon Age Inquisition was a huge success for Bioware, drawing in new fans as well as satisfying old ones. But with the multiplayer aspect seeming to hang around every new game released by EA as of late, fans will at least be pleased to be reassured by Hudson that just because Anthem’s storytelling may be different, it doesn’t mean it will be the same for all their games.
