Operation Swarm Update Gives Black Ops 3 Prop Hunt and More

Even though the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 reveal is on May 17th, 2015’s Black Ops 3 is still seeing updates. The recently-live patch dubbed Operation Storm has added Prop Hunt mode, new weapons, a weapon camo, new Specialist themes, and nighttime version of the Fringe map.

Sledgehammer Games added Prop Hunt to Call of Duty: WWII in March but the mode’s popularity links back to Team Fortress 2 and Garry’s Mod. In this mode, hunters and props face off against each other. The hunters’ goal is to suss which random object is a real person while the props have to blend in to avoid getting shot. It’s a bit like the Assassin’s Creed multiplayer but a little bit weirder and less stabby.

Prop Hunt is coming to ten maps but has a special twist for the ever-popular Nuk3town. Randomly posed mannequins are the only props in Nuk3town and each prop player gets nine Decoys instead of the usual three. Each Decoy gets refunded after it gets destroyed. You can see a short glimpse of this odd but engaging mode in the trailer below.

A few new weapons are also making a comeback in this update: the RPK and Sten. The RPK is a light machine gun from the first Black Ops and the Sten is a submachine gun also from the same game. Every weapon can be adorned with the usual attachments along with the new HIVE camo, but the camo is only available in the game’s Black Market until May 9th.

Black Ops 3 is also having 2XP playlists and giving away a unique Operation Swarm Calling Card to players who log in from today until May 9th.
