Battlefield 1 Will End Monthly Updates, Introduce New Mode This June

Battlefield 1 has been receiving monthly updates ever since it was originally released on the PS4, Xbox One and PC almost two years ago in October 2016. With a new Battlefield on the horizon, it looks like EA DICE will finally stop supporting the game and instead turn its focus to developing the upcoming new game in the franchise, Battlefield 5.

In a recent news update on the official site, EA DICE has officially announced that Battlefield 1 will no longer receive monthly updates after June 2018. However, the developer promises to deliver even more content, and game fixes covering everything from matchmaking to weapon balancing, in the remaining few months ahead.

Additionally, more maps from Battlefield 1‘s They Shall Not Pass DLC will be made available to all players. Starting from today, they can access Rupture, which is a map taking place during the Second Battle of the Marne during World War 1. More maps will be released in May.

Interestingly, Battlefield 1 is set to receive yet another new mode dubbed Shock Operations, which supports 40 players with attackers and defenders fighting over control of sectors. It’s similar to the previously-released Operations Mode, albeit being limited to one single map which is great for those looking for a tighter and shorter experience.

Shock Operations will be available on five maps, including Giant’s Shadow, Prise de Tahure, Lupkow Pass, Zeebrugge, and River Somme. Although some of these maps are limited to players who own the Premium Pass or expansion packs, Shock Operations allow them to be accessed by base game owners too when playing in the new mode.

In other related news, EA DICE announced that the Incursions Mode has officially returned to Battlefield 1 earlier in April. We also recently reported that a Battlefield 5 battle royale prototype might be in development over at EA DICE.
