Report: Battlefield V Battle Royale Prototype in the Works at DICE

Lately, it feels like everyone and their mother wants to get in on the battle royale goodness. And from the looks of it, EA’s DICE studio is looking to get in on the action as well. There have been sources that indicate that the Battlefield V prototype looks to have the same structure as any other battle royale out there. Why? Well, let’s be real for a moment, who isn’t trying to perfect the battle royale formula that led to international success for games like Fortnite and PUBG?

Battle royales are the current ‘in’ thing right now, so we can hardly blame EA for deciding they want to cash in on a system that has led to such world-wide fame even outside of the gaming world. Hell, even rapper Drake is a fan of Fortnite. Who wouldn’t want a game that can pull in even the most famous celebrities in the world? What’s more, DICE isn’t the only one apparently investing in the battle royale system. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also has rumors surrounding it that speak of Treyarch removing the single-player campaign completely in favor of a battle royale mode.

That said, it hasn’t been confirmed that Battlefield V will solely be a battle royale game. In retrospect the game is still a prototype, so anything could happen between now and the release date that may lead to the mode being scrapped. You also have to remember that Battlefield V is set to release this fall, and we sorely doubt that there will be enough time for the developers to create a battle royale mode that is as satisfying as games such as Fortnite.

In hindsight, this is all just speculation until DICE officially confirms a battle royale mode for Battlefield V. However, we are curious on what you think about this mode potentially being implemented into the newest Battlefield game. Are you excited for the series to invest a popular mode like the battle royale, or would you rather DICE solely invest in making Battlefield V the best it can be without it? Or do you just want everyone to stop saturating the market with battle royale games? Let us know in the comments below.
