Overwatch Map Updates Suggest New Lore for Ana and Pharah

Let’s be honest with one another here: Overwatch hasn’t been the greatest when it comes to implementing lore, both inside and outside of the game. So we aren’t too surprised that excitement from Overwatch fans has reached critical high at an update that has occurred on Temple of Anubis. This is a map set in Egypt and a place that is distinctly related to both Ana and Pharah.

The change was discovered by Redditor Karahe, who noticed that in the attacker’s spawn point there was a very familiar image: the Helix Security International logo. For those who aren’t aware of the significance, Helix Security International is the team that Pharah works under. In Pharah’s comic, the Helix Security team helped stop an Omnic takeover on Temple of Anubis.

While this may just seem like a cosmetic change, there is another change that has caused fans to question whether Pharah and her believed-dead mother, Ana, will reunite sometime soon. And that change is the fact that there are now wanted posters of Ana, scattered around three different places on the Temple of Anubis map. At this point in Overwatch’s lore, Ana (also known as “Shrike” by the authorities) operates from the Necropolis, an area set just outside of the Temple of Anubis.

So, does this mean that fans will see an animated short or another comic anytime soon that will reunite mother and daughter? It is a possibility, and while some may think that fans are looking at this a little too deeply, the Overwatch developers have been known to add cosmetic changes to maps before announcing something. They did this with the reveal of Doomfist, and how in the Numbani map the gauntlet belonging to previous Doomfist’s went missing.

We can’t deny that we’re excited to see where this goes, and if the thousand miles long Twitter posts asking for a Pharah/Ana reunion are any indication, we’re not the only ones.
