PS4 Update 5.55 Patch Notes

PS4 TV and Video App Updated With Fresh New Design by Sony

Sony has announced a brand new design for the TV and Video app experience on the PS4 starting today. The purpose of the new design is to focus on making content more accessible and make it easier for PS4 owners to access their streaming service apps like Netflix and YouTube. PlayStation Product Marketing Senior Manager Carrie Surtees revealed the news via PlayStation Blog, where she elaborated on the new features included in the TV and Video update. Players can now just open the TV and Video app as a central destination to find all their videos services in a single place, without jumping in and out of different apps.

The new ‘Featured’ section gives players a variety of the best content taken from different video services while the ‘Spotlight’ section shows them popular picks based on themes that will rotate on occasion, such as ‘Superheroes’ or ‘Award Season.’ Players can also now link their YouTube account to their PSN account and receive personalized recommendations.

The PlayStation Vue section shows players popular live channels from their area and Vue subscribers also get one-click access to live streams, in addition to getting tailored content. Last but not least, the updated TV and Video app interface will allow players to have even faster access to the video apps they use most frequently and a full list of all available video apps, as well as a PlayStation Store video library in ‘My Videos.’

In other related news, Sony launched an online social destination service dubbed My PlayStation last month. It enabled players to access PlayStation Network (PSN) functions on their web browser. Basically, everything that PS4 players have been doing on the PlayStation App on their smartphones can also be done with My PlayStation. The most recent major system update 5.50 for the PS4 also brought with it many great features like Supersampling Mode and library UI updates, which you can check out here for more details.
