EA Sports Wants You To Pay For Subscription Service

Several EA subscribers have received a survey (pictured below) for a subscription service, proposed in early April by EA Sports President Peter Moore.

The survey provides several options for possible service and pay rates, ranging from $14.99 to $34.99, scoping out what matters more to players. Different options allow players to download temporary versions of games 3, 5, or 7 days earlier, get exclusive content, receive a 30% discount on DLC instead of a 10% discount, special membership recognition, and gain the right to transfer DLC from prior titles over to the new title.

The trouble, of course, is that some players will argue that these are features which should just be free. Paying for discounts, early access, and DLC compatibility will only be inviting to hardcore EA Sports fans who enjoy more than just the annual Madden or Tiger Woods. On top of the $10 online pass, this is a hard sell for players who already purchase early beta access, DLC, and Xbox Live Gold, and who already feel nickel-and-dimed out of their devotion to Electronic Arts.

At this rate, there will be a subscription service for multiplayer, patches, and the freakin' game manual…
