The Dota Team has announced Dota Plus, a new monthly subscription service for Dota 2. Dota Plus is described as an “evolution of the Battle Pass”. The Battle Passes were usually released during the Majors and The International tournaments, with specific starting and ending dates. Dota Plus will be replacing the Battles Pass from now on.
According to a Dota 2 blog post, Valve will “continually add features and content” in Dota Plus over time. Notable features include Hero Leveling, which allows players to rack up experience points for their chosen hero and unlock new tiers of hero level badges. Each level and tier grants Reward Shards and new Hero Chat Wheel responses, respectively. Long-time Dota 2 players looking to showcase their mastery of using certain heroes will appreciate the new hero-specific challenges, which arrives with three levels of difficulty.
The new Plus Assistant feature in Dota Plus offers real-time item and ability suggestions to help players improve their game. Suggestions will change depending on the player’s lane selection, purchased items, hero line-ups and selection abilities. Even if players have no idea which characters to choose, the Plus Assistant will consider the heroes chosen by their allies and enemies to present the best set of heroes to opt for.
Hardcore Dota 2 players will find the post-game analytics to be useful, where they can compare their performance during the match with average performances of the same skill bracket. There will also be grids and graphs to help players discern which aspects of their gameplay to improve.
Additionally, Dota Plus subscribers can participate in the weekly Battle Cup for free while non-subscribers will have to pay $0.99 to purchase Battle Cup tickets. Winning the Battle Cup nets players special emoticons and profile accolades, in addition to 20,000 shards.
