State of Decay 2 Won’t Have Microtransactions

State of Decay 2 will not feature any microtransactions. Undead Labs studio head Jeff Strain confirmed the news, but no specific details have been revealed by the developer of State of Decay 2. When it releases, it will be one of the few multiplayer games without microtransactions. This news is made even more notable considering that the first State of Decay, which was released on the Xbox 360 in 2013, did feature microtransactions.

State of Decay 2 is an upcoming multiplayer zombie survival fantasy game, which will be released as an Xbox Play Anywhere game. Players will assume the role of an entire community, with each survivor being their own person, with a unique mix of background traits, skills, and attitudes. The choices made by players while in charge of this community of individuals will shape a unique story.

One of the new exciting features in State of Decay 2 includes the introduction of multiplayer. Players can invite up to three other people or even drop into their games. Each player will still maintain command of their own personal community and roster of characters even during multiplayer.

Although State of Decay 2 will not be featuring microtransactions, it will still be offering several DLC packs after release. Players who pre-order the game will receive “exclusive” items. The standard edition will come with a Prepper’s Pack while the Ultimate Edition will come with both the Prepper’s Pack and the Add-on Pack Bundle at a price of $29.99 and $49.99, respectively.

This reveal by Undead Labs could possibly stem from all the recent backlash towards microtransactions, or more specifically loot boxes. Last month, we reported that several politicians have been gearing up to battle exploitative microtransactions by introducing legislation which regulates loot boxes.

State of Decay 2 is slated to be released for the Xbox One and PC on May 22nd, 2018.
