Hearthstone Year of the Raven

Hearthstone Year of the Raven Details: Three New Expansions, Tournaments and More

While in the real world, it’s the year of the good boys (dogs), in Blizzard’s hugely popular virtual card game, it’s the Hearthstone Year of the Raven. What does this mean? Well, prepare for new heroes, three brand new expansions, and in-game tournaments.

Hearthstone Update: How to Unlock Lunara, Tournaments, and More

The first of the new heroes is Lunara, a druid. She is the first daughter of Cenarius, and has protected the forests of Azeroth for millennia. To unlock Lunara, players will need to win 10 games in the updated Standard format.

The three new expansions will each boast over 130 new cards, and brand new single-player content for players to enjoy. That’s all the details we’re getting for now, but I’m sure we can expect some meta-shifting mechanics and effects to be introduced, as we’ve seen with previous expansions. They really have the potential to shake things up!

Finally, there are the in-game tournaments, which will let players organize and run competitions from the comfort of their own homes. Players will be able to create custom tournaments and invite friends to play. Blizzard has explained that these will start out pretty basic in their functionality, but new features will be added over time. The tournaments will begin as a beta, becoming available during the middle of this year.

Also mentioned in the Blizzard press release, is the 2018 Hearthstone Championship Tour, which is boasting its largest prize pool yet. It’s also going to be held in more countries than ever before.

There’s also the new “Hall of Fame” inductees, with Ice Block, Coldlight Oracle, and Molten Giant all getting the spotlight. I’m sure we’ve all had a lot of fun with at least one of these fantastic cards!
