Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed Diablo Immortal cross-play and cross-progression between PC and mobile, giving players a lot of flexibility on how they can experience the game. This news comes in addition to the announced release date for the game on iOS and Android, as well as the open beta for PC, as of June 2, 2022.
How will Diablo Immortal cross-play and cross-progression work?
As noted by the developer in an official press release, Blizzard wants to ensure that the mobile experience functions properly on Windows PC, which is why the PC version will be released at launch as an open beta. As Blizzard gathers player feedback and fine-tunes Diablo Immortal on PC, it will provide full support for cross-play and cross-progression to make it easy for players to create a party with other adventurers.
Players who start Diablo Immortal on PC will need to sign into their existing Battle.net account, or create a new account; on the other side, players who start Diablo Immortal on mobile can sign into their Battle.net account or go with a supplied guest account. That said, only those with a Battle.net account can seamlessly transfer progression on either platform by logging into their account (and most likely, logging out appropriately where necessary).
The free-to-play MMO Action RPG Diablo Immortal will take place between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III, with Diablo’s many minions attempting to gather fragments of the shattered Worldstone to resurrect the Lord of Terror. Players will be able to choose between the Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard as they fight through eight zones against the likes of the undead Mad King Leoric as The Skeleton King and Baal, the Lord of Destruction, himself. Along the way, players can enter live events open to everyone on the same server and participate in eight-player raids in the Helliquary.
Blizzard has also revealed that Diablo Immortal will have controller support for PC and mobile. With feedback from the closed beta, players can use a free-cursor reticle controlled with a thumbstick to navigate through menus, with messages typed in using a touchscreen or keyboard. Players on PC may choose to use the WASD keys for movement too, instead of the traditional mouse and keyboard.
Players can pre-register for a chance to participate in future beta tests of Diablo Immortal, while earning in-game rewards, by heading to the official website.
