Zelda Breath of the Wild Is the Biggest Winner at DICE Awards 2018

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild conquered the night at the 21st Annual DICE Awards. It managed to grab four awards, making it the most awarded game at this year’s DICE Awards.

The Nintendo Switch game won Game of The Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design and Adventure Game of the Year. Cuphead was the other big winner of the night, as it picked up Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction and Outstanding Achievement in Animation.

Games which won at least two awards each included Horizon Zero Dawn, Lone Echo/Echo Arena, PUBG, and Snipperclips. Horizon Zero Dawn won Outstanding Technical Achievement and Outstanding Achievement in Story, while Lone Echo/Echo Arena won Immersive Reality Technical Achievement and Immersive Reality Game of the Year. PUBG won Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay and Action Game of the Year whereas Snipperclips won the D.I.C.E. Sprite Award and Family Game of the Year.

Meanwhile, the award for Mobile Game of the Year and Handheld Game of the Year went to Fire Emblem Heroes and Metroid Samus Returns, respectively. Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year went to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle while Sports Game of the Year went to FIFA 18. Nier Automata received the Role-Playing Game of the Year award while the Racing Game of the Year award went to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Remaining awards like Fighting Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Character went to Injustice 2, Super Mario Odyssey and Senua from Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice, respectively.

Additionally, a special Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Nintendo Special Corporate Advisor Genyo Takeda for his contributions towards shaping the video games hardware industry. In his long career at the Japanese games giant, he worked on the Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube and the Nintendo Wii.

The DICE Awards has been hosted by The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) since 1998, with the goal of honoring each year’s biggest achievements in video games. The 21st Annual DICE Awards was hosted by Greg Miller and Jessica Chobot.
