Microsoft Expects “Increase of Traffic” With PSN Outage

Whoever is to blame for the two-day disruption of the PlayStation Network, Sony is hesitant in revealing any information. However, Microsoft sees this as an opportune time for the Xbox Nations online event, which allows millions of players to play online for free this weekend. (Some of you might be looking at this as a possible motive.) An unnamed Microsoft representative, responding to Electronic Theatre, gave this response to their competitor's situation:

Of course it’s regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favorite games online. That being said, we are expecting Microsoft’s robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems. Being able to play their games via the Xbox LIVE Network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that – whether they have a Gold subscription or not.

The representative remained silent when asked whether this PSN outage will mean more Xbox 360 sales for recent multiplatform release like Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat.
