A ton of gamers fondly remember GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64, but a select group of fans takes their love even further. Quite a few mod makers work to add new content to GoldenEye, and one of them has done the unthinkable. There is now a way to play GoldenEye 007 with the whole cast replaced with characters from the Mario franchise.
With the GoldenEye With Mario Characters mod by StupidMarioBros1Fan, you can transform the game into the darkest Mario story yet. In addition to new character models, tweaks have been made to the story so it will make more sense with the new cast. The replacements for the original GoldenEye 007 cast are:
- James Bond – Mario
- Natalya Simonova – Peach
- Alec Trevelyan – Luigi
- Xenia Onatopp – Daisy
- Arkady Ourumov – Bowser
- Boris Grishenko – Yoshi
- Dimitri Mishkin – Donkey Kong
- Valentin Zukovsky – Wario
- May Day – Pauline
- Oddjob – Toad
- Jaws – Waluigi
- Baron Samedi – Rainbow Bowser
- Civilians and Enemies – Koopa Troopas
The modding doesn’t stop at just characters though. There’s three new multiplayer levels included. You can fight your friends at Peach’s Castle, Bob-omb Battlefield, and Big Boo’s Haunt. These maps were originally by the modder Sogun, and are a great (and hilarious) place to play multiplayer.
One of the most impressive parts of the GoldenEye 007 With Mario Characters mod is that it’s entirely playable on the original Nintendo 64 hardware. If you have a cart that allows you to play backups, you can just use the mod file to patch a backup of GoldenEye 007, and you’re good to go.
