Capcom Reveals Ace Attorney Series is Coming to Nintendo Switch

Capcom has announced that the Ace Attorney series is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with the first game set to launch on the console in the fiscal year 2018.

The news was revealed in an interview with Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto in an interview with the Japanese site Jiji, before being summarized by the Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, who tweeted:

“In interview with Jiji, Capcom COO said company’s developing Switch titles aimed at release after April next year. The pipeline includes “Ace Attorney” franchise.”

This reveal doesn’t specify whether or not the Ace Attorney franchise being in the “pipeline” for the Switch will lead to a brand new game releasing on the console, or if we can just expect to see ports of old Phoenix Wright games.

The Ace Attorney franchise previously made its home on the 3DS and DS, so the portability of the Switch certainly makes sense as a next step for Capcom. Hopefully we’ll be seeing brand new cases, though fans would also likely welcome remasters of old entries in the series.

There’s no word yet on any further details regarding the next Ace Attorney game, though the fiscal year 2018 time frame means any time after March. The last entry in the visual novel series was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Spirit of Justice, which received a digital-only release on the 3DS in 2016, before making it to iOS and Android this year.
