Warner Bros. Officially Ends Content Support for Lego Dimensions

This is unfortunate news for anyone that is – or has kids that are – fans of the toys-to-life genre, as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that it is ending all content support for Lego Dimensions. The announcement was made just recently through the official Lego Dimensions Twitter page.

In a statement written alongside both Warner Bros. Interactive, Lego Dimensions’ developer Traveller’s Tales – known for almost every official Lego game to date – and the Lego Group itself, the partners wrote directly to its fans, thanking them for their continued support since the game’s launch in 2015. Here is what it had to say:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group would like to thank fans for their ongoing support of LEGO Dimensions. After careful consideration, we will not be producing new expansion packs for the game beyond what is now available.  We will continue to provide ongoing server and customer support for all LEGO Dimensions packs.  Existing packs will continue to work interchangeably and will remain available for purchase.

Initially, Warner Bros. had planned to support Lego Dimensions for three years with steady drops of new content, characters, and packs to purchase in-store and play in-game. Though it will not continue, there have been a lot of various content released over the last couple of years since its release.

Lego Dimensions has supported the title thus far with dedicated packs paying homage to movies like Ghostbusters, TV series like Doctor Who, and even other video game franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog and Portal 2. A third year of content was originally rumored to feature Minecraft and other series, but unfortunately will not happen now. On the bright side, Warner Bros. will keep Lego Dimensions’ servers online for the foreseeable future.

Opinion: Though I am not a personal fan of Lego Dimensions, I am a huge toys-to-life fan. I enjoyed Disney Infinity greatly, and was very disappointed to see it go. To me, it seems like these games do really well but perhaps not. Regardless, I am sorry to anyone that enjoyed this game and am saddened to see such an unsure future for toys-to-life games.
