After a SEGA teaser website that launched recently, we knew from the extremely vague details shown that there would be a collaboration between SEGA and a mysterious other developer.
We now know that mysterious developer is most likely the SEGA-owned Atlus (or potentially a smaller mobile team), as the latest Famitsu issue has revealed the announcement of Dx2 Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation.
This new Shin Megami Tensei title is a mobile game that is coming to smartphones in Japan with an unspecified release window. There is currently no word on whether or not Liberation will be localized or see a Western release.
Though most Japanese publishers like Square Enix have been diligent in bringing its mobile titles to the West, this would be one of the first to come here from Atlus if it chooses to localize it.

Of the 32 total casual and mobile games that Atlus has developed, only three of them have been published in the West. Most of these titles are from the Shin Megami Tensei franchise or its spin-off series Persona, giving little hope for a localization of Liberation.
It doesn’t help that other published titles like the Shin Megami Tensei Imagine MMO launched later here in the West than it did in Japan – per usual – and also ended its services a whole two years before that would happen in Japan.
Despite this, Shin Megami Tensei IV on 3DS experienced record-breaking sales in North America, actually matching the sales figures in Japan. This surge in popularity for the series could see a release here.
But even if it doesn’t, there are still two Shin Megami Tensei games scheduled for release next year. The first is Strange Journey Redux on 3DS, a remake of the original DS game. The other is the yet untitled SMT game that was announced for Switch back in January during the original showcase.
