Star Wars 1313 Dev Opted Against Jedi Protagonist To Provide A More Relatable Hero

The gameplay reveal for Star Wars 1313 had just about everyone's jaw on the floor when LucasArts first showed it off a couple of months ago at E3. But gorgeous graphics aside, this latest Star Wars title provides a very different take on the universe that George Lucas created. When one thinks of a game centered around this massive franchise, playing as a Jedi immediately comes to mind; however, in Star Wars 1313, the developer wants to give you a very different perspective, one that is seen through the eyes of a more relatable character.

In an interview with OPM, creative director Dominic Robillard discussed the reasoning behind putting the player in the shoes of a Bounty Hunter rather than a Jedi Knight. “The demi god complex that you’ve maybe seen or expect, frankly, from a Jedi game is definitely one vision of what playing in the Star wars universe could be like. But we wanted to do something that had a much more ‘relatable’ hero character.” Robillard explained.

The team wanted to create a protagonist “who was more grounded, and that meant ultimately having a character who was bound by the range of human ability, but that still gets to do amazing things through his gear, his gadgets and how he gets to use the level design.” Sounds an awful lot like Batman, no?

Details are still pretty scarce, as Star Wars 1313 is likely quite a ways a way from completion, so keep it locked to GameRevolution for future updates on this compelling new Lucas title.
