Rumor: Microsoft To Unveil “Xbox Surface” Tablet Later Today

Unless you managed to completely tune out on tech news this weekend, you're likely well aware of the fact that Microsoft is prepping a major announcement in Los Angeles this evening. Rumors have been circulating the web with regards to what the company could possibly be revealing, and with E3 2012 now in the history books, it's hard to believe Microsoft would make a major gaming announcement hot off the heels of the year's biggest gaming expo.

If a recent report is to be believed however, it appears that Microsoft may in fact be announcing something related to the Xbox, though not in the way you may have thought and/or hoped. Alleged sources are indicating that the "Big M" will be blowing the lid off of its first Xbox-branded tablet, dubbed Xbox Surface. According to the rumor, it will feature a 7-inch screen and support "up to 4 wireless game controllers."

For all of the juicy details, consult the image from Shifted2U below.

But the rumors don't stop there, as MCV is reporting that the upcoming announcement involves a piece of hardware capable of streaming Xbox Live content, while TechCrunch believes the revealed device will be an e-reader tied to Barnes and Noble. At this point, it's still very much up in the air, so be sure to stay tuned to Game Revolution for the big reveal.
