Wait a second. You've never played Plants Vs Zombies? Before I became a believer I thought PvZ and Peggle were just those weird casual games that managed to addict enough people to become buzz-worthy. Now that I've played both games I realize how right I was.
Except for the buzz-worthy part. Plants Vs Zombies is actually a really good game. It makes sense then that a Chinese company has decided to blatantly rip off Popcap's tower defense game without the developers approval.
Shunxiang Technology recently attended an amusement trade show in China with their Plants Vs Zombies cabinets in tow. When Arcade Heroes spotted the cab, got pictures and contacted Popcap, Garth Chouteau had this to say:
As suspected, the Plants Vs. Zombies arcade cabinet shown in the pictures is completely unauthorized by PopCap.
The biggest infringement here is the license. Apparently the cabinet has completely different gameplay:
This version is different than the home versions. It's a 4 player joystick game where each player controls a plant turret that they use to shoot the zombies as they walk back and forth, or at least that is what it appears to be.
I love me some Plants Vs Zombies. I'd probably drop a few quarters in one of those cabs. If the gameplay is as addicting as Popcap's PvZ, I'd probably drop a few dollars. And maybe a paycheck or two. OK, so I'd be leaving with nothing. I can quit anytime I want.
