Paid DLC Coming to 3DS with New Fire Emblem

The one platform that's managed to hold back the ongoing siege of downloadable content in this industry (aside from Rock Band tracks) remains Nintendo's Wii and DS hardware. That will be changing in March with the release of Fire Emblem for the 3DS.

According to Nikkei (who've often been correct in their Nintendo rumor-mongering), Nintendo will offer the first paid-for DLC for the strategy game to the tune of "several hundred yen." No word on how many of Nintendo's titles will receive the DLC treatment, but it certainly opens to the door for other companies to tack content onto their games for a price.

The Wii U will also play nice with DLC, but with a software library yet to be nailed down, WUDLC (pronounced WOO-dilk) news is a little vaguer.

After the messy patching of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, I'm not surprised that the company would look into easing the process of adding onto games in the future.
