Best Fighting Game 2011

Mortal Kombat

Platform(s): Xbox 360, PS3

Publisher: Warner Bros.

Developer: NetherRealm Studios

Mortal Kombat was my childhood. No, I didn’t live in some sadistic house of horrors, but I did spend a good deal of time at local arcades, loading up the MK coin-op with quarter after quarter. I thought those days were behind me. Stuffing quarters into a machine is in the past, but everything that made Mortal Kombat amazing back then has made a triumphant return. NetherRealm studios learned from past mistakes made with the franchise and used that knowledge and power to return to what made the series successful in the first place – simplicity and violence. Not only have they brought it all back to 2D glory, but they’ve managed to make it better, deeper and more fun – something I never dreamed possible. The end result is nothing short of a flawless victory for the franchise and for long-time fans alike.

Did you really think I could pick anything else?
